JOHOR BARU: Police have made significant progress in a drug investigation, arresting three individuals, including a married couple, after seizing drugs worth more than RM700,000 in Bandar Seri Alam.
According to Seri Alam OCPD Supt Mohd Sohaimi Ishak, the arrests occurred at 9:30 PM on October 18, following a week-long operation by the Bukit Aman Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID).
The suspects were detained while allegedly waiting to deliver drugs to other members of a larger syndicate. “We believe this group is part of a more extensive network. Their primary role involves transporting drugs from Kuala Lumpur to Johor Baru,” Supt Sohaimi explained.
The suspects had collected the drugs and were awaiting pickup by other syndicate members in the area. The vehicle used for transportation will be handed over to the members responsible for distribution.
The arrested individuals include a 58-year-old local man, his 45-year-old foreign wife, and their 40-year-old driver. All three tested negative for drug use. Background checks revealed that the local man has two previous drug-related offences, the driver has seven, and the woman has one.
This group has reportedly been active since July. Police seized 20 packets of syabu weighing about 22kg, valued at RM705,472. Each packet weighs approximately 1kg and is worth over RM30,000.
Additionally, police confiscated the syndicate’s vehicle, valued at RM45,000. The suspects are currently in remand until Thursday, October 31, to aid in the ongoing investigation. The case is being pursued under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for drug trafficking.
